The uncomfortable condition after leaving the college. I have tried to apply some jobs near my living places. But, I agree the people said that is not easy to find a nice job for us now. Actually, I have still waiting for graduation certificate. I have already graduation sign up for first week at December this year. Wow, two months without doing anything from now and just waiting the time? Oh no, that is not me. I can not to be idle for along time. I should do something useful.

I have a great idea. I want to focus to contribute for KDE community. I made some user accounts, with my nickname: Latif, through KDE wikis, such as: Community, TechBase, and UserBase. I have (focus) started contribute on KDE UserBase wiki by translating the wiki onto Indonesian language (Bahasa Indonesia).

Yeah, I am not real jobless now. I have much time for KDE, with joining the communities, work as contributor, and yes I like this job. Being paid by KDE? No, I like to do this without wish for money. I like to contribute to KDE because KDE is my passion. I am KDE addict.

Have fun with KDE, eh? :)

Regards,
Latif Anshori Kurniawan

SalixOS (13.37 KDE)

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Few days ago, at Net café near my Mom's home, I downloaded one of the ISO file of the Slackware Linux distribution (distro), SalixOS version 13.37 with KDE as environment. Read release announcement at official SalixOS team and download the ISO from here.

After downloaded the SalixOS's ISO, before install it on netbook, I made its pen-drive bootable disk with UNetbootin from Pendrive Linux. Installation seems like a traditional style of Slackware -- actually, SalixOS would not want to leave characteristic (simplicities) of its major (Slackware). After booting the pendrive and before main installation, I have mounted /dev/sdb (pendrive partition) via command line interface (CLI) by making new directory below /mnt directory.

#pwd
/
#mkdir /mnt/sdb
#mount /dev/sdb /mnt/sdb

When choose disk where packages would be install on, select the bottom option: 6. Install from a pre-mounted directory.. Then, I had input: /mnt/sdb on the box.

Installation process run smoothly. Quite enough lightly and fast, although on netbook. When in the middle installation process, shown an error message that KOffice was corrupt. No big deal, the package could install at another time (if I have a time visit to Net café again). End of installation, rebooting.

After log in, I have got a nice landscape, a very beautiful desktop display. Personally, whatever KDE on Linux, I love KDE. Even, I have found no one GTK based applications, such as: LibreOffice and GIMP. Well, no problems (for this, the sky will not fall on my head).

I am a KDE addict. I have quick start to explore the KDE of SalixOS with cheerfully and happily, and making new lists *.TXZ or *.TGZ packages (applications) which will be download -- insha Allah -- to completing my KDE computation on this Slackware Linux family.

An office suite: of course KOffice;

An image manipulation: I plan to download KDE Graphics which includes Krita and KPaint;

Multimedia: there is Bangarang for watching videos and Clementine for listening MP3. Perhaps, I must install the codec manually, so I can play many proprietary files, such as MP3 or others. Hmm, maybe I will download VLC;

Internet: no Konqueror and rekonq, so I will grab both. For email client, quite enough with KMail;

Others? Would be added later.

Coda
SalixOS 13.37 KDE, still brought simplicities and traditional style of Slackware with sophisticated and beautifully of KDE. Go ahead and try it yourself.

Regards.

~ Latif Anshori Kurniawan
